Fundamentals:Overview,Modeling, Materials, Lighting , Rendering, & Animation
This course is not only an entry level course for the new user, but is also relevant to existing users wanting to upgrade or enhance their existing 3d skills, or perhaps change over from other 3d packages.
The course covers the major functional areas of the latest version of 3ds Max primarily, scene creation, materials and texturing, lighting, rendering, modeling & animation.
This course does not just focus on the buttons, but does cover the processes that underlie them. This not only helps you understand the concepts, but also how to apply them to your own work.

Pre-Requisites:
1. A working knowledge of PC's and the Windows operating environment is assumed
2. Like to play PC games.
3. Like Maths

Course Outline :
Overview
1. Introduction to Computer Graphics, 3D Animation and 3ds Max
A comprehensive overview of 3D disciplines, computer graphics concepts and the 3d industry and its applications in general.

2. 3ds Max Overview and User Interface
An introduction to the basic features and functionality of the 3ds Max user interface.

3. Working with Files and Objects

4. Transforming Objects
Identifies transformation tools, axis and constraints, explains world coordinate and reference systems and teaches you how to use dummies, point objects and align tools.

5. Basic scene creation lights, camera, action, render to video file.

Modeling
Modeling in 2d for 3d
1. Shapes
This module defines the relationship between 2d shapes and splines and teaches you how to distinguish between single and composite shapes as well as become
familiar with the concept of spline based modeling.

2. More Objects and Modifiers
This module introduces you to the Modifier stack in 3ds Max which is used to change creation parameters after object creation. Sub-Object selection and gizmo modification is also introduced with the main objective being to understand and use the various modifiers that are available and their application.

3. Modeling
This module covers low and high polygon modeling techniques using sub-divisions, box modeling with the new edit poly tools and mesh smooth modifier. Other common techniques such as 2D to 3D utilizing spline based and 3d boolean operations are also covered.

Materials
1. Introduction to the Materials Editor
Discover materials and object properties and learn how and why objects reflect and transmit light by creating and applying materials and shaders.

2. Creating Mapped Materials
This module will teach you how to use maps, create uv's, how to add realism to materials and to apply mapped materials to objects and sub-objects.

3. Materials and Texturing
In this exercise we cover the process of utilizing the unwrap modifier to unwrap a models geometry to apply proper uv mapping coordinates and types. Once this is done create a template for proper textures creation and placement.
Creation & Rendering Module

Lighting & Rendering
1. Lights and the Scan line Renderer
Application of the principles of computer based lighting and rendering techniques.

2. Cameras and Rendering
Application of the principles of computer based cameras including multi-pass rendering effects such as motion blur and depth of field, as well as concepts of rendering for film, broadcast, online and pre-press.

3. Extras
This module is used to cover other areas such as post effects using video post, special effects using 3ds max particles and space warps for geometric deformation, and physical effects utilizing the physics engine Reactor.

Animation
1. Animation Principles
A close look at traditional animation principles and how to apply these 2d concepts into the 3d world.

2. Basic Animation Techniques and Track View
This module covers traditional keyframe animation concepts and introduces you to 3ds Max's arsenal of animation tool sets such as the track view node with its dope sheet and curve editors.
